BEACHES

Most of my photographs are taken from the beach and although I usually set out to shoot the rocks or the surfers I often end up photographing the beach itself. A beach is an ever changing canvas: people, tides, colours and even the rocks sand covering all look different with seasons.

When the camera is lifted over about 30 metres, objects on the ground appear diminished in height but as sunset approaches their shadows lengthen. These shadows create the three dimensional effect we are used to seeing at ground level and bring life to shots which might otherwise appear flat and dull.

Many of my photographs are taken near sunset when the shadows are long and the colours are warm. Sometimes I shoot in the early morning when the wind is still and then my drones become the platform of choice.
